It is said that, back in ancient Greece, people from all city-states looked up to the Oracle at Delphi as one of the most important religious sites in the entire country.
Well, darn. This is an excellent essay. I read it at 9h30, 26 May, 2025, Paris time. Not that anyone appointed me Critic of Daniele Bolelli, but I got a lot more out of this than my attempt to listen to The Drunken Taoist. But maybe I should do a deep dive into the origins of this Substack and the podcast in question so I have a valid opinion. This much uncertainty makes me some kind of genius, I guess. That's real scary. For me and everyone else.
So, a day ago I was knocking The Drunken Taoist and here I am back today trying to locate the Netflix? series about the Mountain Meadows Massacre and the Beck video you guys were talking about. As Montaigne said: I might say something today, walk around and think about it and when you meet me two weeks later say something different. (I changed my opinion in 2 days. That makes me smarter than Montaigne, you know.)
Hi, I generally do all searches with Yandex except if I am shopping for something, then I go over to Google. Yandex often gives me zero links for buying a product or service and Google gives me page after page of options. I'm in France and when I try to find a way to watch American Primeval, the situation is reversed. Yandex has pages of somewhat sleazy looking options that seem to be VPN based. Google has YouTube trailers and references to things like IMDB and Wikipedia. You spend time in Italy, right? Do you stream Netflix? They and Amazon Prime offer greatly reduced libraries in France.
This is an excellent essay and for me, very timely too. It helps me understand why the Socratic method of teaching is so effective and it reinforces the reason that Jesus taught in parable: both methods require the listener to engage. And if they choose not to, they can walk away unoffended to be invited another day.
This essay is particularly timely for me as it reinforces something I have recently noticed while listening to interviews with current influencers and leaders.
Number one , certain individuals ability to respond honestly to a question by asserting that they simply don't have an answer or at least not an informed opinion on the matter. That caught my immediate attention and gained my respect as it is a breath of fresh air after a lifetime of leaders and influencers simply talking about a subject yet saying absolutely nothing of substance and therefore skirting the subject or redirecting.
In this age of internet information overdose I feel it's important to always look for signs and follow my gut reactions. I don't mean jump to conclusions! Rather to simply use my instincts and control my emotions.

History on Fire may be more your cup of tea than Drunken Taoist.

The Netflix series is American Primeval, which to hard to view in Europe , but you can get excerpts of the Beck concert at https://youtu.be/cdlXbcdsD9E?si=rh43wDKZaWETqIqa
They don't stream American Primeval in Europe?

Maybe it’s time for the wise to stop being so damn humble!
