Dan Carlin is a MASTER storyteller and he brought me to you, Danieli, back in 2017. Thanks to both of you for your mastery. I’m glad you have both moved to Substack!

Daniele, this is great, well-deserved for Dan, and I couldn't agree more. Having had the great fortune to meet Dan in person and considering him a friend (he and I are both Oregonians and live only 90 minutes away from each other), I can concur that he is the real deal. You mentioned that he is kind, which he certainly is, but I would also like to add humble and generous. Ten years ago I contacted him about using one of his podcast episodes for an assignment in my college History class I teach, and he was generous in allowing me to burn CDs (yes, it was that long ago) so students would have access without having to pay. For anyone who has listened to Hardcore History you'll know the famous line, "After all I'm not a historian, just a fan of history." Dan never pretends to be what he's not. He came onto our Vikingology Podcast earlier this year sharing his time, passion for history, and insights for no reward other than to help a friend get a project off the ground. I'm forever grateful our paths have crossed.

Great fan of both your podcasts. My dad was a historian for a number of years before he became a lawyer, and he impressed upon me a reliance on the sources and the need to take historical figures and cultures in the context of their times. He’s not a fan of podcasts (“too new” he says, but then, he is in his 80s), but when I’ve described your and Dan’s shows to him, he was delighted someone was “keeping the torches lit,” as it were.

Thanks for everything, Prof. Bolelli, and thank you, Dan!

P.S. I tried to copy the image at the start of the article - I wanna get it made into a poster for a friend who is a fan of both your podcasts - but it wouldn’t let me. Am I doing something wrong? Can I purchase it somewhere?

Cheers!

Danielle, I remember listening to Dan's "Judgment at Nineveh" at night in bed with earbuds in, right when it came out. Mind-blowing and insomnia-inducing. I've been hooked on HH and HoF ever since. Thank you for all your hard work and passion. History rules.🤘

Ciao Signori! I appreciate you both!

Somehow you two are able to blend analytical rigor, historical detail, and storytelling flair in a way that the end result is much more than its parts!

Still, each Dan brings their own unique "flavor" to the blend. And that make it even more interesting.

Beautiful note. We need more grace on the internet and thank you for a fine shovelful lin the right direction. I am likewise annoyed that I seemed to have finished the Carlin part of the internet. Now I am excited to find yet more Dan! In a double dose no less. Thanks Daniele!

I don’t have time to wait 8 months to hear a new podcast. I have found many great replacements for HH podcasts.
